7-day Nepal itineraries
For one week in Nepal, choose Kathmandu Valley in depth, Kathmandu with Pokhara, or one compact trek. Count arrival, transfers and departure within the seven days rather than treating them as extra time.
Choose by intent
A useful seven-day plan normally needs one clear theme. Decide whether the week is primarily cultural, scenic, faith-led or a compact walking journey.
A realistic one-week answer
Seven days is enough for a focused Nepal itinerary, but not for every major region at once. The strongest choices are a Kathmandu Valley culture week, Kathmandu with Pokhara, or one compact trek with only the transfers it genuinely needs.
Count arrival, departure and overland or domestic travel inside the seven days. If those movements consume too much of the week, reduce the number of places rather than shortening every experience.
| Trip shape | How the week is used | Best for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kathmandu Valley in depth | Kathmandu, Patan, Bhaktapur and flexible neighbourhood or viewpoint time | Culture, architecture and shorter transfers | Less regional contrast |
| Kathmandu and Pokhara | Two bases connected by road or flight, with transport time protected | Heritage plus Himalayan scenery | A faster rhythm and greater transport dependence |
| Compact Nepal trek | Arrival and transfer time plus a short, route-appropriate walking programme | Travelers prioritising consecutive trail days | Little room for wider sightseeing or disruption |
This illustrative private-tour structure counts arrival and departure. It is not a confirmed operating itinerary, a seven-day trek or a promise of mountain views.
| Day | Base and focus | Keep the plan realistic |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Arrive in Kathmandu; settle in | Keep sightseeing optional until the international arrival time is known |
| Day 2 | Kathmandu Valley heritage with selected city or sacred sites | Choose a few meaningful visits; confirm access and walking comfort |
| Day 3 | Transfer to Pokhara | Treat the road or flight as the main movement of the day |
| Day 4 | Pokhara: lakeside and locally chosen sightseeing | Leave space for the group’s interests instead of booking every hour |
| Day 5 | Pokhara: a viewpoint or optional gentle walk | Adjust to weather and walking needs; this is not a multi-day trek |
| Day 6 | Return to Kathmandu | Avoid a same-day domestic-to-international connection; extra margin may be needed |
| Day 7 | International departure | Only add an activity if check-in and airport timing comfortably allow it |
For a slower culture week, replace the Pokhara transfers with separate Patan, Bhaktapur and Kathmandu visits. If a trek matters most, replace the city-to-city tour rather than adding trail days on top. Share your exact arrival and departure times, then confirm hotel nights, transfers and which activity would be dropped if a transfer is delayed. Flight times, transport choice and season determine the final sequence.
Plan with fewer assumptions
It can be assembled, but transfers would take a large share of the week. For a first visit, choose two bases or allow ten days for a more useful three-region rhythm.
Yes, when the route and access fit the full holiday. A seven-day Nepal trip is not the same as seven uninterrupted trail days, so include arrival, trailhead transfers and a practical departure margin.
Kathmandu with Pokhara is a practical first contrast for many visitors. Choose Kathmandu Valley in depth if culture matters most, or a compact trek if walking is the clear priority.
Do not treat a seven-day arrival-to-departure holiday as enough time for a standard Everest Base Camp trek. Choose a lower-commitment short route or allow a substantially longer trip with appropriate acclimatisation and transport margins. Do not remove acclimatisation days to fit a calendar.
Ask for the arrival-to-departure schedule, transport choice, hotel and room category, meals, guide arrangements, entry or permit costs, exclusions and change terms. A low headline price is not directly comparable if those services differ.
